ViewFinders Too

A place-based, interdisciplinary, visual environmental literacy program which examines the dynamic relationship between the built and natural environments.

ADAPTED FOR USE IN THE BLACKSTONE VALLEY

ViewFinders Too is designed to enhance and reinforce basic skills taught through middle school (grades 6-8) curriculum frameworks. Additional activities adapted for use in the Blackstone Valley may be used either as a complete unit or as supplementary lessons depending on the needs of the individual teacher.

ViewFinders Too, is a middle school program that provides students with the skills and tools to:

  • explore and analyze the visual environment within their own community.
  • provide them with the resources and opportunity to compare and contrast their community’s visual environment with the visual environments found in communities in other locations.
  • introduce and teach how to use tools available to bring about change or sustain the visual environment and community character.

Students are challenged to look at their communities critically and creatively develop their vision of the future.

Adapted Activities will enhance students’ knowledge of the unique and historic and cultural resources in the Blackstone Valley and include field trip components aboard the Blackstone Valley Explorer River boat and the Blackstone Valley Double Decker Bus.
