Features 1972 Project ZAP documentary seen for the first time in 36 years highlighting first major cleanup of Blackstone River

The Blackstone Valley Tourism Council has a new link on its website at www.tourbalckstone.com that offers exciting film and video documentaries highlighting the heritage and culture of Blackstone River Valley.

Visitors to the website can now link to the BVTC Theater anytime to see documentaries produced or presented by the Tourism Council.

One of the featured documentaries that can be seen for the first time in over three decades is a 1972 film on Project ZAP, which was the first successful cleanup along the Blackstone River.

The documentary, produced by Blue Sky Films, showcases the efforts of 10,000 people who began to clean up the Blackstone River in September of 1972. The Blackstone River was the first polluted river on the North American Continent beginning in 1793 with the onset of the American Industrial Revolution. The film is grainy but it is the only known chronology of the Blackstone Valley's first river reclamation.

This massive river cleanup was the spark that began efforts by many to reclaim the lands and waterways of the Blackstone River Valley that are being realized in the region today.

Another popular video on the website showcases the history, culture, nature and recreation of the Blackstone River Valley. Winds of Change, a 2005 documentary, produced by the John H. Chafee Blackstone River Valley National Heritage Corridor Commission, presents a fabulous brief overview on the dramatic landscape changes that have taken place in the region since 1986.

Other films on the weblink feature diverse interests including local cultural activities, community recognition and geotourism.

Feel free to view these amazing documentaries anytime, anywhere on demand on the web at www.tourblackstone.com and link on the BVTC Theater icon.
