The 218 Park is Pawtucket largest
recreation area. It is located in the eastern side of the city, with
access from either Route 15 Armistice Blvd or Rte. 1A Newport Ave.
The park is divided into several areas
of active recreation. Baseball fields are located on the Newport Ave.
side, tennis courts are located next to the park office, and the
Slater Park Lawn Bowling club is located behind the carousel.
A
historic core area contains the Daggett House, the oldest house in
Pawtucket, and the Casino, home of the RI Watercolor Society and Loof
Carousel. The former zoo area has been reopened as the Daggett
Farm and provides an area for petting animals.
Slater
park has a number of picnic sites that require a permit from April 1
through Columbus Day. Permits are also required for wedding
photography at Marconi Gardens. The park office is on the access road
near the Daggett House.
The park has been undergoing a capital
improvement program over the last ten years and additional work is
still proposed to reduce erosion, plant new trees, and improve the
walking paths.
