Develops and promotes tourism, economic development, and environmental cleanup activities and sustainability in Rhode Island’s Blackstone Valley, including the development and operation of several ongoing and special events, projects and activities. Events include the Blackstone Valley Polar Express, Train Excursion through the Blackstone Valley, American Girl Train Ride,  Blackstone Explorer Riverboat Tours, Bike Tours, Dragon Boat Festival, Cherry Blossom Festival, Culinaria Food Tours, Heritage Golf Tournament, and Annual Tourism Council Celebration. Blackstone Valley Visitor Center/Center by the Blackstone

Blackstone Valley Visitor Center175 Main St. Pawtucket, RI  02860 401-724-2200 Provides maps, brochures and other tourism related materials, help desk, available to book meetings and special events, movie and presentation theatre, gallery, RIPTA transportation center, Blackstone Shop Gift Shop, a moving kiosk that illustrates various highlights of the valley, and art galleries and displays. Be sure to check out the free 20 minute movie: The Hidden Blackstone and get your National Park Passport stamped. The Visitor Center is also home to the Blackstone Valley Tourism Council.


Mon – Sun: 10 am to 4 pm

Hands-on relief map of the Blackstone River Valley Watershed: Informs visitors about how the valley came to be and the implications of its tremendous waterpower. This exhibit was designed with an emphasis on the sight-impaired, and as an educational tool for school children.

2 art gallery display areas including a 1,000 square foot gallery: Available to exhibit the works of Rhode Island artists.

State-of-the-art theater: Surrounded by a life size 360 degree photo mural of a mill interior, shows the award winning film, “Hidden in the Blackstone,” a film on the rise and fall of the American Industrial Revolution. The stunning light fixtures and 50 plush seats were rescued from the Leroy Theater and restored. There is additional seating for another 40 persons on carpeted terraced seating behind the theater chairs. The theater is available for use by local, state, and national organizations and businesses after 5 pm to hold meetings, lectures, and special musical performances.

Blackstone Shop: Operated by the Blackstone Valley Tourism Council, the gift shop offers food and gift items including Blackstone Valley, Rhode Island and Polar Express related products and products from a variety of local artists. More

Transportation center: Utilized by about 15,000 bus riders.

Rent the Visitor Center

The Center is available for rental for all types of events including meetings, conferences, weddings and special events. Hosts weddings with a capacity of 400 and is same sex friendly for weddings. Google Map
