Special Saturday Afternoon and Twilight Cruise Offered Saturday, August 19, 2006

Pawtucket, RI — Prior to moving the Explorer to its fall location in Woonsocket, the Blackstone Valley Tourism Council is offering, in addition to its regular public tours on Sunday, August 20 @ 1, 2, 3 & 4 pm, boat cruises for Saturday afternoon August 19th at 2:00 pm and 3:00 pm and a special Twilight Cruise at 6:30 pm.

The 45-minute afternoon cruise explores the wetland bird habitat of the Valley Falls Marsh and the surrounding historic landscape. Ticket prices are $8.00 for adults, and $6.00 for children and seniors on the 45-minute cruise. If you prefer, on the leisurely 75-minute twilight cruise you may see muskrat, deer, fox, swallows or bats. Prices for the twilight cruise are $12.00 for adults and $10.00 for children or seniors. Reservations are required for the Saturday cruises and highly recommended for Sunday afternoon tours.

Valley Falls Marsh, RI’s largest freshwater marsh, and Lonsdale Marsh, a RI habitat restoration project, is a haven for swallows, blue heron, and other waterfowl, both resident and migratory. Binoculars are available, or you may bring your own. Insect repellent is recommended.

Beginning Sunday, August 27th through October 29th, the Blackstone Valley Explorer will operate from the River Street landing at Market Square, Woonsocket.

- The Tourism Council’s popular noontime lunch tours have been extended to include Thursday August 17th in Central Falls and Thursdays from August 31st through September 14th in Woonsocket.
