NuGRD™ Anti-Corrosive (VCI)

Provides a unique, cost-effective solution to prevent surface corrosion of packaged components and protects against rust.

All ferrous & non-ferrous metals are prone to atmospheric corrosion in presence of oxygen and moisture. The oxidation needs acidic pH. 

NuGRD™ is a unique nitrite and nitrate free anti-corrosive solution providing protection for multiple ferrous and non-ferrous metals. It is an additive based on the mixture of weak acid salts incorporated in wax. 

It is based on vapor-phase corrosion inhibitors that protect the corrodible contents from rusting, converted into plastic master batch in LLDPE, PS, PBT and other polymers.

Metals packaged using NuGRD™ technology are protected from salt, humidity, condensation, moisture and atmospheric contaminants. The NuGRD™ vaporizes and condenses on all metal surfaces in the enclosed package.

Unique Features & Advantages

Anti-corrosion properties are activated immediately after the production of the film. VCI films exhibit the anti-corrosion of properties at temperatures below 5°C/41°F. Optimum protection effects are best when objects are completely sealed within the film that is heat sealable with standard equipment. However, bags or sheets can be tied, folded, taped or stapled for protection equal to a heat sealable enclosure. The VCI film does not have to be in contact with the metal to protect it since the vapors travel to all portions of the enclosure.

Toxic & Safety

There are no adverse health effects from the use of VCI. All additives are FDA, GRAS and TOSCA compliant.

Mechanism of Action
  • Acting as a catalyst, silver reportedly disables the enzyme that one-celled bacteria and fungi need for their oxygen metabolism. They suffocate and are thus destroyed.
  • Silver in the anti-microbial/anti-fungal additive exerts an antimicrobial effect on bacteria (Escherichia coli, Salmonella Typhimurium, Staphylococcus Aureus, Klebsiella Pnuemoniae, etc.) and fungi (Aspergillus Niger, Penicillium Globosum, Gliocladium Virens, Aureobasidium Pullulans, etc.)
Dosage The recommended addition NuGRD is 1% let down.

Ecological and Toxicological Properties

No adverse health effects from the use of the anti-corrosive additives in VCI are known. All additives in the formulation are listed on the GRAS and are TOSCA approved. This product is free from nitrates and there are no known adverse effects on the working environment. We recommend that this product be kept closed in a dry place.
