Pawtucket Arts Festival Celebrate 10-year Milestone
 

Pawtucket Arts Festival

 
Since its inception in 1999, the Annual Pawtucket Arts Festival has celebrated and featured a citywide showcase of visual and performing arts that has always drawn a crowd!
 
The Pawtucktet Arts Festival opens its tenth year on Wednesday, Sept 3 with a sneak preview of Friedrich Schiller's Don Carlos at the Gamm Theatre.  Other highlights for this year include:
  • Festival Gala, Friday, Sept. 5 at Slater Mill showcasing a Taste of Pawtucket with samplings from some of Pawtucket's finest restaurants and featuring the music  of Slippery Sneakers and Buckwheat Zydeco Band.  Admission $15.00
  • Dragonboat Races and Taiwan Day Festival, Saturday, Sept 6 (See article below).
  • Pawtucket Nite Out, Monday Sept. 8
  • Third Annual Hope Artiste Village Open House, Friday , Sept. 12
  • Stone Soup Folk Fest Saturday, Sept. 13 at Slater Park.
  • Seven Nights Mirror Image Film Festival, Sept. 12, 13, 18, 19 & 20, Visitor Center Theater, 175 Main Street

 Dragonboats Ready for Pawtucket Race
 
The Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Boston in association with the Blackstone Valley Tourism Council and the  City of Pawtucket, RI, are proud to announce the 9th Annual Rhode Island Dragon Boat Races and Taiwan Day Festival.  This wonderful and exciting festival will take place on Saturday, September 6, from 8:00 am - 4:00 pm. 
 
Teams will be competing for cash and trophies.  Representing local businesses and organizations from Rhode Island as well as Dragon Boat groups from across the Northeastern US, the teams will race in varied heats along a stretch of the Pawtucket River.  There will also be challenges to benefit charities of choice.  
 
In addition to cultural entertainment, featuring traditional and contemporary Taiwanese music by the Chai Found Music workshop, a Chinese dumpling eating contest will be held at 12:30 pm.  A staple of the Chinese diet, this is the first dumpling eating contest in the United States.   Win $200 if you can eat the most dumplings in one sitting.  $10 to participate.  Sign up at the Registraion table.

Dynamite Cook-Off Ready to Explode

 
 
On Saturday, September 13, 2008, the Blackstone Valley Tourism Council will once again host the Blackstone River Valley Dynamite Cook-Off at River Island Park, located along the Blackstone River in Market Square, Woonsocket, RI.  The Cook-Off is part of the 26th Annual French Farmers Market presented by the Northern RI Council on the Arts.
 
Discussions continue to rage throughout the community over who makes the best Dynamite. Help decide who makes the best Dynamite in the world while enjoying traditional music & dance, fresh farm produce, and a variety  of arts and crafts! 

Bring your Dynamite Recipe and Calise's Bakery will provide the Dynamite rolls. Let the judges and public decide who has the best recipe! It's simple to participate. Sign-up today!

 Explorer Riverboat and Samuel Slater Canalboat Return to the River

On Tuesday, April 29, 2008 both the Blackstone Valley Explorer Riverboat and Samuel Slater Canalboat will return to the Blackstone River for another season of rivertours.
 
The Blackstone Valley Tourism Council is accepting reservations for RiverClassroom education programs and charters starting in May aboard the Explorer.  Public Tours will begin in June.  Reservations are also being taken for overnight stays aboard the Samuel Slater Bed & Breakfast.
