Greetings from the Blackstone Valley, RI
"Cruising down the river on a Sunday
afternnoon." These lyrics run true in the
Blackstone Valley, RI as many explore the Blackstone
River by canoe and kayak with the Blackstone Paddle
Club or aboard the Blackstone Valley Explorer.
The recent Monday series in the Providence
Journal has introduced many to the recreational
values right here in their own backyard along the
banks of the Blackstone River and there are many
more opportunities to enjoy during the lazy days of
Summer.

Providence Journal Explores the Blackstone in Weekly Series |

From boat tours aboard the Blackstone Valley
Explorer, Ranger Walkabouts in quaint Mill Villages, a
visit to Slater Mill, to paddling peacefully on the
river; the Providence Journal has begun a
weekly series exploring the many highlights along the
Blackstone River. Spearheaded by Blackstone Valley
Editor, Karen Maguire, the Blackstone is featured
every Monday on the Journal's front page and will
continue through September.
Thanks to this great publicity we have added
additional summer tours aboard the Blackstone Valley
Explorer. Friday, August 5, Wednesday, August
10
and Monday August 15 explore the River
at Twilight. Tour departs at 6:30pm from the Central
Falls Landing and cost is $10 Adults/$8.00
Children/Seniors. Public Tours continue in Central
Falls Sundays through Sunday August 21 at 1, 2, 3 &
4 pm. Special holiday tours will also be available on
Monday, August 8, at 1, 2, 3 & 4 pm. Sunday,
August 28 through October 23, tours depart from
Market Square in Woonsocket, RI . Cost for Public
Tours $7.00 Adults/$6.00 Children/Seniors. For more

Twentieth Anniversary Celebration Continues with Ice Cream Party and Penny Arcade |

Join us August 11, for an Ice Cream Party at
Spring Lake Penny Arcade in Burrillville, RI as we
continue our twentieth anniversary celebration.
This party also celebrates the 75th anniversary of
the Penny Arcade Time: 5PM-7PM. * Hosted by
John Bateman, Burrillville Recreation Department and
Anabell's Ice Cream Cost: $10.00 per person

Tea Tours aboard Samuel Slater Canal Boat Provide English Experience |

Savor a true English Experience with a serene
British Tea Tour aboard the Samuel Slater, an
authentic British Canal Boat. Tea served as you
relax on a leisurely cruise up the Blackstone River.
Tours Depart from Central Falls Landing every
Sunday at 1 and 3 pm. Due to recent publicity
Tours for August and early September are sold out.
Dates available: September 25 and Sundays in

Dragonboats Return to Blackstone Waters |

If you have visited Central Falls Landing lately, you
may have noticed another species of wildlife on the
river. Two of the six Dragonboats have returned
from
hibernation to take teams on practice runs in the
Valley Falls section of the river.The Rhode Island
Dragonboat Races and Taiwan Day Festival,
scheduled for Saturday,
September 10 from 8am-5pm, are modeled after the
famous Chinese Dragonboat Festivals held around the
world. We supply the Dragon Boats, paddles, drum,
t-shirts, hats, training time, pfds, special awards
ceremony and the fun! You supply the paddle
power.
A great way to support teambuilding, businesses and
others are welcome to participate by forming a team
consisting of 20 paddlers, 1 drummer and 1

First Photos Along Blackstone Canoe Trail |

Our first photos along the Blackstone River Valley
National Heritage Corridor Canoe Trail has been
posted to our website and new sites in
Massachusetts have recently added.Find all of
the
15ft fiberglass canoes, customized with scenes of
the valley, along the Canoe Trail. Take a
photo of yourself, your family or your friends with
each canoe and email it to info@tourblackstone.com.

Footsteps in History - Over 100 Sites Signed up to Participate in Columbus Day Weekend Event |

Veronica Cadoppi, Program Coordinator for
the Foosteps In History, announces that over
100 sites throughout the Blackstone Valley will
participate in this exciting, new Columbus Day
Weekend Event: the Blackstone Valley Footsteps
in
History Preserve America Weekend. More sites
are still expected to join.
Footsteps in History will highlight the
historic, cultural and artistic attributes of the
Blackstone River Valley with participating sites
open to the public and special events planned for
the holiday weekend. For more information, you can
