The recently completed first leg is 7 miles from Front Street to the
Blackstone State Park at the end of Lower River Road. The path is open to

Explorer has provided 120,000 passengers with a number of river
tours along the Blackstone River. In addition to being available
for charter use, there are a number of regularly scheduled
narrated and custom tours held throughout the warm weather

The oldest standing house in
Pawtucket, furnished with outstanding antiques, including Colonial
Pewter used in the Revolutionary War and China owned by Gen. & Mrs. Nathanael Greene and the Daggett Family. Eight generations of Daggetts
lived on the farm, now known as Slater Park. The house was leased in
1902 by the Pawtucket Chapter of the Daughters of the American
Revolution (DAR) who began its restoration.

Named for its mile-long face of veined
granite quartz, Diamond Hill is another great place to do some jogging
or hiking, have a picnic and enjoy a free concert. The town sponsors the
free Summer Concert Series in July and August. Climb to the summit and
you can see for miles around on a clear day. Once you've gotten to the
top of the former ski slopes (the smaller hill on the left is a much
easier hike) you come to walking trails from which you can see the
Diamond Hill Reservoir to the east and Woonsocket and beyond to the
west. (Watch out for loose rocks and some shaky footing when near the
top of the tallest ski slope). There are picnic sites throughout the
park with permits required only for outings and barbecues. The pond in
front of the bandstand is a favorite of kids looking for frogs and
tadpoles. Bring a net and bucket for observing, but remember to return
the catch to the pond when through. Bathroom facilities are open only on
days at special events and outings by permit. The park is just a few
miles north of I-295.

A 200 year old vineyard and 33-acre
vineyard and orchards, the site includes tours, wine & cheese
tastings, a gift shop, and facilities for special functions. Since 1976,
owners Claire and Peter Bernston have produced fruit wines of native New
England fruits, including their own estate grown pinot noir. The Gift
shop offers baskets, personalized labels, gourmet foods and accessories.
DIRECTIONS: From Interstate Rte. 295: Take
Exit 11, proceed north on Rte. 114 (Diamond Hill Rd.), 2 miles to stone
gates and sign on the cast side of the road.

The largest of the 13 dry goods stores in
the village in the early 1800's. It is now a living museum with artisans
demonstrating crafts of ancestors - spinning, weaving, quilting, and rug
hooking. Crafts are on sale in the restored Country Store and a number
of events are held on an annual basis. Headquarters of Glocester
Heritage Society and a Visitor Center. DIRECTIONS: From

It's where all of
the transportation stories of the Blackstone River Valley Come
together. Situated between the Blackstone River and the Blackstone
Canal, the museum shows the history of the river and canal as a
means of transportation from the Native American peoples to the
pinnacle of the Industrial Revolution. Open April through October
9 am to 4:30 pm daily.

Features one of the area's largest freshwater
beaches, the park includes swimming, picnicking, boating,
baseball, freshwater fishing, horseback riding, naturalist and

tables and fireplace sites, 2 picnic shelters, 2 games fields, 1
little league field, 10 miles of bridal trails, a boat ramp,
bathhouse, concession stand and information office.

Site of a former Cistercian Monastery,
portions of the original monastery buildings are still intact despite
a fire in the 1950's. Home to the Cumberland Public Library. Also
contains jogging and walking traits, and horseback riding is allowed.

The Museum provides the story of
local culture, immigration, labor, and enterprise in the Blackstone
Valley River Valley, and the story of the French Canadians who left the
farms of Quebec for the factories of New England. Two floors contain 8
real-life displays, more than 200 photographs, 3 films, many
interactive-audio presentations, hands-on displays, please-touch
exhibits, and changing exhibitions. The Museum also holds the La Fete du
Jour L'An, a traditional French celebration welcoming the New Year. The
Museum store features unique gifts, books, crafts and clothing.

Triple A farm club of the
Pawtucket Red Sox offers a inexpensive evening out for the family in a
park that's retained its old fashioned appeal despite renovations
completed just before the 1999 season. In addition to the new stadium
seating, there is also a new beam that circles the entire outfield to
give fans a casual viewing area in a picnic-like atmosphere. A number of
special events are run throughout the season and pre-game barbecues and
party tent reservations are available for groups or organizations.

St.), follow School St. 2 blocks to Pond St., turn left on Pond to
Columbus Ave. I-95 South: Exit 2A (Newport Ave., Pawtucket), follow

77 acre refuge of the Audubon Society of Rhode
Island, the Refuge contains over 2 miles of trails through pine
forest and open fields, a library and a gift shop, in addition
to being the Society's headquarters. The Audubon Society has
dedicated the refuge for quiet walking, observing and learning
about wildlife, capturing plants and animals with photographs,
and protection of wildlife. Powder Mill has fine pine stands, a
pond and a brook. There are 3 trails. The blue trail is 35 - 40
minutes, the orange trail is 15 - 20 minutes, and the yellow
trail is 55 - 65 minutes. A complete trail trip is about 2 miles
and takes about 90 minutes. DIRECTIONS: 295 to exit 7B onto
Route 44 west. At the 3rd set of lights, turn left onto Route 5
(Sanderson Road). Turn left at the 2nd driveway. The refugee is
located behind the mall.

The Park offers 18 picnic sites, tennis
courts and ballfields, gardens and walking paths, pony rides, the
historic 1685 Daggett House and historic Looff Carousel, built in 1895.
Pony rides for kids take place in the old zoo area, is now set up like a
small farm. The Marconi Gardens, near the Armistice Boulevard entrance,
is a popular spot for wedding photos, and include a footbridge and
gazebo. Permits are required for photos. The Casino houses the RI

Experience the birthplace of modern America. Try
spinning and weaving in the Sylvanus Brown House, built in 1758
originally for the Jencks family. See waterpower run a 19th century
machine shop in the Wilkinson Mill built in 1810 and hear the rumble
of operating machinery in Slater Mill, built in 1793, where it all
began. All educational programs are curriculum-based and can be
adapted to learn objectives and capabilities of the group. Special
programming available. Private visits can be designed especially for

it contains a pond with a freshwater beach right in the middle of the
