Greetings from the Blackstone Valley,
RI
Along the shores of the Blackstone River autumnal hues of red
and gold have already begun creating a mosaic reflection upon the waters.
The Blackstone Valley offers some of the best fall foliage in New England
that can be viewed on a river tour in Woonsocket, by bike along the
Blackstone Valley Bikepath or on a hike along the many trails and paths.
With the long weekend ahead why not get out explore the many sites, and
special events with Preserve America's "Footsteps in History" weekend.
Throughout the season enjoy a fall festival, harvest fair, or visit a
local farm stand for a selection of apples, squash and late season corn.

With over 150 sites participating, Blackstone River Valley
"Footsteps in HIstory" Preserve America Weekend highlights the historic
and cultural attributes of the Blackstone River Valley by providing a
weekend to celebrate historic, cultural and artistic sites. Programs,
activities, and open houses provide the opportunity for the public to
enjoy and learn! This event involves all 24 communities located within the
Blackstone River Valley National Heritage Corridor. Below is a sample
of sites and events here in RI.
Burrillville Come sample freshly churned butter on many
delicious breads while learning about the Bridgeton School exterior
restoration work. Central Falls
Fishing tournament on Saturday 10/8. Concert on the river on Sunday
10/9 at Riverfront Commons, Broad Street & Madiera Avenue.
Heritage Parade Starting at the Central Falls Landing (corner of
Broad St. & Madeira Ave.) finish at Jencks Park Cumberland
Enjoy a 1-hour talk by David Balfour about history of the library, the
Monastery and the 9 men’s misery. Gloucester Visit several
early colonial sites such as Brown & Hopkins General Store, Old Stone
Mill, and Stagecoach Tavern to name a few.
There are many other events and historic offerings. Mr. Ronald D.
Anzalone, Director of the Office of Preservation Initiatives, Advisory
Council on Historic Preservation stated at the kick-off Tourism Summit
yesterday, "Footsteps demonstrates what people are willing to do to
preserve their communites."

Enjoy Valley's Annual Celebration of the Season -
Autumnfest |

Enjoy fun, food, and the festivities of the fall season at
Woonsocket's largest community event - Autumnfest. Featuring a 3-hour
parade, kiddie rides, sporting events and entertainment all weekend, this
year's Autumnfest promises to be better than with a spectacular fireworks
display on Sunday, October 9 @ 9:30pm!

Twentieth Anniversary Celebration - Reception at Covered

The Tourism Council's Twentieth Anniversary Celebration
continues with a reception at the covered bridge in Lincoln Woods on
Sunday October 16 from 2-4pm. Recently constructed the covered bridge is
located at the Breakneck Hill Road entrance to the park. Hosted by Rhode
Island DEM, Department of Parks & Recreation enjoy the fall splendor
in the park. Cost $15.00 per person.

Autumn is the perfect time for harvesting the fruits of labor
and savoring the taste of the season. With the many local farms and farm
stands in the valley you can pick your own apples, learn how to press
cider, enjoy fresh vegetables, find your own 'Great Pumpkin' and even

Blackstone Valley Scenic Railway Tours presents their Fall
Festival & Shopping Excursion aboard the Providence & Worcester
rail on Saturday, October 22, 2005.
Enjoy the fall foliage as you travel from Cumberland RI through the
Blackstone Valley National Heritage Corridor to Putnam, CT in the Quinebaug-Shetucket
Heritage Corridor. This 7-hour historically narrated tour will depart
at 9:00 am and include a 2 1/2-3 hour stopover in Putnam for its 150th
anniversary celebration featuring antiques, gift shops, and restaurants.
Price: $50 preferred seating, $45 regulart seating and $25 obstructed
view seating and children under 16.

Theatre's award-winning new adaptation of the classic Russian
novel "Crime and Punishment" by Fyodor held Dostoyevsky has been
extended through October 16.
- King's
Feast pays homage to this spooky time of year with a special
Halloween show at Hose Company No. 6 in Pawtucket for the month of
October.
- Speaking of Halloween there are many other spooky happenings and
events planned throughout the Blackstone Valley, RI. Don't miss
Haunted Hill at Diamond Hill State Park or Festival
Ballet's production of Chris Van Alsburg's book "The Widow's
Broom". Performance times Oct 29 at 7:30 pm, Oct 30 2 pm & 6
pm at their Hope Street location in Providence. And join us aboard
the Black
stone Valley Explorer for River Tales & Legends Saturday
October 22 & October 29 @ 5:00pm in Woonsocket. You can also learn
about Halloween customs at the Smith Appleby Museum during
their All Hallows Weekend October 29- October 30 from 6-9pm.
- For fun family entertainment bring the children to see Disney's
Beauty and the Beast live on stage at Stadium
Theatre, October 14-October 30.
