    We hope you all survived the recent rains. Though we needed to replenish our water deficit after a dry April, we welcome back the nice sunny weather for the many upcoming outdoor activities and celebrations.


    Seventh Annual Rivers Day Celebration Kicks off Public River Tours aboard the Explorer

    The Blackstone Valley Tourism Council invites you to celebrate Rivers Day on the Blackstone River Saturday, June 17, 2006 at Central Falls Landing in Central Falls, RI beginning at 10:00 am with speaking program and awards presentation starting at 11:00 am. Hosted by the City of Central Falls, the Blackstone River Watershed Council, Friends of the Blackstone River and the John H. Chafee Blackstone River Valley National Heritage Corridor Commission, this year will mark our seventh anniversary celebrating the Blackstone River. The celebration kicks-off our public programs aboard the Blackstone Valley Explorer beginning at 12:00 noon with FREE 45-minute river tours guided by a National Park Service Ranger on the hour through 3:00 pm.

    Public Tours aboard the Explorer are scheduled for every Sunday and Holiday in Central Falls through August 20th, and in Woonsocket from August 27th- October 29th.

    • Cost: $8.00/Adults, $6.00/Children under 12 & seniors.
    • Free passes for 2 Adults and 2 Children are also available at the following Blackstone Valley Libraries: Cumberland, Lincoln, Pawtucket and Woonsocket.

    RiverSing at Slater Mill Bigger than Ever
    Rivers Day celebrations continue in music and song along the banks of the Blackstone with RiverSing at Slater Mill. First presented as RiverSing on the Blackstone by the Blackstone Valley Tourism Council, RiverSing at Slater Mill will be held on Saturday, June 17, 2006, and will again feature hundreds of singers and musicians as well as extensive activities and entertainment for children and a special stage for teens. At least three grand sings will be held, with audience participation on both sides of the river.

    Founder of RiverSing on the Blackstone and this year's RiverSing at Slater Mill, Ray Warner will be honored with the John H. Chafee Rivers' Day Award for his efforts in establishing this wonderful and innovative celebration of the Blackstone River.

    Tee Off at the Second Annual Blackstone Valley Heritage Golf Tournament

    Tee off at the second annual Blackstone Valley Heritage Golf Tournament on Monday, June 19, 2006 at Crystal Lake Golf Course. Hole in One prizes include:

    VolunTourism - Learn About New Sector of Tourism
    The Rhode Island VolunTourism Forum offers Blackstone Valley attractions an opportunity to learn about a new and emerging sector in tourism on Tuesday, June 27, 2006 from 10:00am-3:00pm. Hosted by the Blackstone Valley Tourism Council, Blackstone Valley Visitor Center and Slater Mill, participants will learn to enhance the visitor experience, identify new markets, and add program value with volunTourism while networking with Colleagues.
    • Cost is $25, which includes lunch and materials.

    Canoes Commemorate Corridor Commission

    Boldly designed, distinctively painted canoes are showing up in communities along the Blackstone River Valley creating the Blackstone Canoe Trail. The project is part of this summer's 20th anniversary commemoration of the commissioning of the John H. Chafee Blackstone River Valley National Heritage Corridor and has been selected for inclusion in The Big American Art Book due out in October, a distinction bringing more attention and status to the Corridor. Beginning July 4th, local families and other vacationers are encouraged to explore what the Valley has to offer while locating the canoes along the way.

    Blackstone Valley Tourism Council is seeking teams of all abilities for the 7th annual Rhode Island Chinese Dragon Boat Race/Taiwan Day Festival.
