Council Launches Fifth In Series Of Sustainable Day Tours
The Blackstone Valley Tourism
Council conducts the fifth tour in the series, Tour Your Own
Backyard, on Saturday, March 13, 2010.
Featured are the Floral Motifs and
special displays of the John Brown House in Providence; a European
Dish Garden demonstration at the Daggett Farm greenhouse in
Pawtucket, and a docent-led tour of the Roger Williams Botanical
Center in Providence.
Tour Your Own Backyard excursions
highlight the cultural, historical and natural history of the area
in support of Sustainable Tourism in Rhode Island. Previous tours
have featured French foods and culture, demonstrations and samplings
at local dairy & produce farms, and the shops, kitchens and studios
of local artisans and confectioners.
“There’s an incredible number of
remarkable cultural and historical sites in Rhode Island that have
been put to re-use for our enjoyment and appreciation. Tour Your Own
Backyard engages and delights its patrons with these
honest-to-goodness gems,” says Lesley McLaughlin, project
coordinator for the series.
The tour will meet at 9:00 a.m. on
Saturday, March 13 at the Blackstone Valley Visitor Center, 175 Main
Street, Pawtucket. Transportation is provided from that point by
motorcoach or mini coach. An included lunch is provided at a local
proprietor owned/operated establishment.
Reservations are necessary and can
